The Joyland Short Story Collection Search


This fall Joyland and ECW Press are launching the Joyland eBook imprint to spotlight the best in short fiction across North America. Our first two collections are from New York’s Jim Hanas and Toronto’s Chris Eaton.

For our spring 2011 title, we’re soliciting a short story collection from one of our Joyland readers.

The selected book will be e-published in Spring 2011, with a $500 advance and will be available through Amazon, Kobo and other venues.

Deadline for submission is August 1, 2010.

There is a submission fee of $10.

Joyland donors are exempt from this fee.*


-Manuscript should be double-spaced, between 130 to 250 pages (give or take).

-Short fiction collections only (but story and novella combos are okay).

-This search is open to all residents of Canada and the United States of America.

-One manuscript submission per person.

How to submit

Click the “Pay Now” button to pay your $10 (US) submission fee via secure PayPal. You will need your unique transaction ID number to email your manuscript.

Once you’ve paid and have your unique transaction number please email your complete manuscript, with the following formatting, to:

Subject line: Unique transaction number / your full name.

Email body:

Website or blog
Your Bio or CV

Attach your manuscript.
(Format your manuscript as a single document file with a table of contents, .doc or .rtf only.)


Submissions close August 1, 2010. Notifications will go out by September 2010.

Privacy statement

Contact information will be for administrative purposes only. Submitted manuscripts and information will not be stored after September 2010.

Simultaneous submissions

Simultaneous submissions are okay as long as we are notified if you need to withdraw your manuscript from competition.
